Yoga | Massage | Mindfulness | Vegan

“I refuse to be afraid of myself any longer.”

My name is Stefania Montemurro (1984) and I’m a certified mindfulness yoga teacher and certified massage therapist.

I studied at the Law University of Torino (Italy) and worked as a lawyer for 7ys, satisfying all the social expectations an Italian girl was supposed to achieve. Like many other people, I burned out.

Why Yoga? I started practicing yoga in my 20s to support a knee pathology and mild scoliosis that I discovered after years of physical training (jogging, spinning, and rowing). Back then, I practiced mainly gentle Hatha and meditation on and off for 5 years, and studied yoga philosophy and history. I was born a library-worm.

In Berlin, I started a daily personal practice at Jivamukti Yoga, taking private lessons in Ashtanga too. I learned about cult abuses as well as the science (or lack of it) of stretching. I became more interested in somatics, mobility training and the movement culture. The body moving and breathing is an interesting territory to explore.

I started my first Yoga Teacher Training at Zen Yoga (200h) where I got in touch with the Buddhism tradition and biomechanics, and started teaching straight away.  TBH, I was already teaching to friends and relatives before my certification and I can say without a doubt that just because one is good at practicing yoga it doesn’t mean that they are qualified to teach it. Lesson learned. I continued my education with other trainings (dynamic mindfulness 550h) and workshops (Full-body Massage, Thai massage, somatic therapy, Ido Portal method, floor-work, mobility training, MBSR).

My New Carrer. I’m teaching yoga weekly since 2017, keeping on with my personal practice and studies. I was one of the teachers for the 200YTT 2018-2019 and e a senior teacher for the YTT 2023-2024. I lead workshops on mobility, urban retreats for meditators, and women’s circles. I have given massages weekly since 2018.

During my free time, I take care of over 100 houseplants and an outdoor garden, read tons of books, paint, and cook living a very simple and tranquil introverted life. I came back running despite my chondromalacia patella and successfully completed a half marathon already. Guess yoga and mobility training, and a whole plant-based diet (I’m an ethical vegan since 2016) are paying off after all. And I’m immensely grateful for that.
